Collection: AMBOYNA
Amboyna is a term most commonly used to describe one of the world's rarest and most expensive exotic burr woods. Technically not its own species, Amboyna is the name given to the burr wood harvested from trees in the Pterocarpus genus, most notably the Narra tree (Pterocarpus indicus) and occasionally the Burma Padauk.
It is prized for its intense figure, featuring tight swirling "eyes," ripples, and complex grain patterns. Colours range from "Red Amboyna" (deep reddish-brown) to "Golden Amboyna" (yellow-honey tones).
Amboyna burr is a highly durable, dense hardwood, resisting termites and decay, though its wild grain makes it tricky to machine, requiring sharp tools and care to avoid tear-out. It finishes beautifully and is perfect for luxury items like knife handles, pens, and instrument inlays, but its natural density gives it good inherent stability, especially when stabilised, making it great for demanding decorative uses.
